Three Things to Consider When Choosing Between Engineered Hardwood and Solid Hardwood Flooring

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing which type of wood flooring is appropriate for your needs. Many people immediately think that putting solid hardwood in their West Palm Beach, FL home is the best way to go no matter what, but there are some things you'll probably want to consider before you go forward with that plan.

So, Quantum Floors thought it might be a good idea to provide our customers with a quick list of things to consider before you pull the trigger on your new flooring. Here are three things to take into account before you decide between wood flooring options:

1. Condition of Your Subfloor

It is extremely important to measure the moisture levels of your subfloor before deciding between these types of flooring. It is important to measure these levels in various places across your subfloor, to be certain that you achieve an accurate reading. If your subfloor's moisture levels exceed between 2% and 3%, you're probably going to want to go with engineered to avoid future problems with you floor.

2. Do You Plan to Refinish Frequently?

If your home is likely to experience a heavy degree of foot traffic, or if it is likely to be subjected to increased levels of stress, you're definitely going to want to have the option of refinishing your floors from time to time.

While engineered can be refinished up to three times with an appropriately thick lamella, hardwood can be refinished up to 6 times over the course of its service life. In the case of high-traffic homes, you might have more peace of mind by going for hardwood flooring in your West Palm Beach, FL home.

3. Where Will Your Flooring Be Installed?

As durable as hardwood is, it is simply not suitable for certain areas of the home. Hardwood is susceptible to a number of serious problems that result from moisture. So, it is inadvisable to install it in areas such as the bathroom, basement, or kitchen. Engineered is much more resistant to these problems, and would probably be a better choice for such locations.

No matter what type of flooring you decide to go with, Quantum Floors has you covered!
