How to create your flooring budget

How to Create Your Flooring Budget

So, you?re ready to update the flooring in your South Florida home, but don?t know where to start in creating your budget? Here?s everything you need to consider to create a budget for your South Florida flooring makeover.

Cost of Material

The first step in estimating the cost of your new flooring is the cost of the material. You?ll want to start by knowing how much flooring you will need by measuring your room(s). Multiply the width by the length to get the area in square inches, then divide by 144, which will equal the area in square feet. It?s a smart practice to add about 10% more flooring than your area to account for waste and to have some extra material should a repair be needed in the future. This total equals the amount of flooring you need for your project.?

Take this amount to your?nearest Quantum Floors showroom (Boynton Beach, Coconut Creek, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach Gardens) to obtain costs on the flooring types you are considering. Once you select your material, we will come to your home and professionally measure the space(s) as well as inspecting the sub-floor and other pertinent items to ensure a flawless installation.

What Else Will I Need?

In addition to the flooring material, you should also budget for all the items necessary for your installation. Here?s a checklist of items you?ll likely need.

  • Underlayment (if required for the flooring type)
  • Sound dampening membrane (required by many condominiums)
  • Moldings ? trim pieces (quarter round, baseboards) and transition pieces
  • Installation costs
  • Sub-Floor Repairs or leveling
  • Glue to install flooring (if necessary)
  • Removal and disposal of existing floors
  • Furniture moving

Installation Costs?

Once you?ve budgeted for materials, it?s time to start thinking about installation. If you?re going to hire a professional installer, make sure they?re licensed and insured. We also recommend checking out the company?s online reviews. Keep in mind that installation costs vary widely depending on where you live and the particular needs of your project.
